(Santa Maria, CA) Marian Medical Center's Emergency Department was recently honored for its commitment to patient satisfaction. Avatar International, Inc., a leader in healthcare research and consulting recognized Marian's "Exemplary Service" with the prestigious Most Improved Emergency Care 2006 award. Marian's Emergency Department staff have dedicated themselves to providing the best in clinical care as well as patient service. Best practices, including more patient-centered communication, as well as waiting room enhancements have not only improved the efficiency of Marian Medical Center's Emergency Department, they've also earned national it recognition.
Emergency Department Nursing Director, Ann Marsalek explains, "Collaborative efforts on the part of physicians and nurses to become better bedside communicators are making a great difference for our patients. Our staff has been focusing specifically on improving communication about wait times and pain management."
In addition, physical improvements to the Emergency Department waiting and triage areas have not only enhanced the aesthetic of the space, but have also streamlined a patient's journey; providing additional space, a more efficient triage process, and improved patient privacy. The addition of the new Patient Care Center, adjacent to the Emergency Department has been well-received as well. Marsalek states, "Our goal is to make a patient's visit to the Emergency Department as user-friendly, anxiety-free, and reassuring as possible, while delivering excellent patient care."
