Topping Off Ceremony

Marian Celebrates Topping off of New Hospital Project

On June 11, 2009, supporters of Marian Medical Center celebrated the positioning of the last structural beam to the new hospital. Following a time-honored tradition of placing one's John Hancock on the final steel beam, friends of Marian and a host of employees, physicians and volunteers signed the steel beem.

A memorable moment as Sister Janet Corcoran, O.S.F., VP Mission Services, Marian Medical Center, is joined by Sister Marilyn Ingram, O.S.F., former administrator who oversaw the planning and construction of the current Marian Medical Center in the 1960s.  Steve and Marie Will, who honored Clarence and Rosalie Minetti with a gift to the Cornerstone Campaign, join their Grandson Jack Goodwin in signing the beam.  Mark and Dorothy Smith, who generously gave $1 million to the Cornerstone Campaign to build the new hospital, sign the steel beam.  Marian Foundation Board of Trustee member Marilyn "Lyn" Souza and her husband Wilbur sign their nurses to the beam.

Sister Sheryl Marshall, O.S.F. takes a moment to pose for a picture before signing her name on the beam.

Tom Martinez, Hospital Community Board member, finds a spot to leave his signature.  Michael S. Hardy, Hospital Community Board Member and Cornerstone Campaign Cabinet member, adds his name to the beam.  Sue J. Sword and Joe Olivera, honorary Marian Foundation Board members, sign the beam as Chuck Cova, Marian President/CEO, looks on.

President/CEO Charles J. Cova locates a spot to add his signature to the beam.  Employees lined up in the physicians' Courtyard to sign the 20 foot, 500 pound steel beam.  Nursing Directors Jean Sysak, RN, Deborah Merkley, RN and Lisa Brunello, RN each take a turn signing the beam.
