“HOPE FOR EVERY MOMENT”

Marian Cancer Care is pleased to host “Your Journey...Hope for Every Moment,” an event designed to educate and motivate community members who want to learn more about cancer and cancer prevention. (See Flyer)

A variety of helpful and practical subjects about wellness, quality of life and nutritional issues will be discussed. The event will take place on Saturday, October 20, 2012, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Mission Hope Cancer Center, 1325 East Church Street, Santa Maria. Featured speakers will include a panel of cancer survivors, Nancy Walker, certified natural chef, Jean Steel, motivational speaker and author, and four physicians – Robert Dichmann, M.D., Kevin Ferguson, M.D., Monica Rocco, M.D./F.A.C.S., and Jeff Wu, M.D.

Throughout the event, Marian Cancer Care will offer a Be The Match Registry® bone marrow donor screening. This bone marrow donor screening is hosted in honor of Randall (Randy) Salmon, a Nipomo resident and leukemia patient. No one in Randy’s family is a match and no matches have been found for him on the national registry. Marian Cancer Care is asking for all Central Coast community members to attend this screening event to help Randy and thousands of other patients in need of a bone marrow transplant. Community members ages 18 to 60 can participate in the screening which includes a simple cheek swab.

“The ‘Hope for Every Moment’ event will not only offer valuable oncology education to cancer patients or interested community members, but it will also provide patients and loved ones with the motivation needed to triumph over cancer,” explains Katherine Guthrie, Dignity Health of the Central Coast Oncology Services Director. “At this event, we are also privileged to offer the Be The Match Registry® for Randy Salmon. There is a match out there somewhere in the world for every patient and I encourage all community members to attend the screening to see if they can be the one to save a life.”

All event participants will receive a free personal copy of Jean Steel’s book, I’d Like to Run Wild! A Wellness Action Guide. Guided tours of Mission Hope Cancer will be offered following the event’s forum between 12:30 and 1:30 p.m. Refreshments and snacks will be available for attendees throughout the event.

Reservations to attend the event and screening are required. To book a reservation or for more information about the event, community members can call Marian Cancer Care at 805.219.HOPE (4673).
